Nurses have the Courage to Care

Georgia Nurses: Making a Difference Every Day
Message from the President
Dear Collegue,
A Time to Look Ahead
We are beginning a new era in our profession. As a group we have a large number of nurses who are nearing retirement and an even larger group standing at the ready to take on leadership roles. We are in a time of nursing shortage coupled with a time where nurses isolate themselves from each other as professionals.
We have an urgent need to transfer knowledge and expertise to the new generation of professionals. Yet, we are faced with the dilemma of differences in values and even ways in which we learn and do things. How do we ‘pass the torch’ to the nursing leaders of tomorrow? Can we preserve the core, the intent of what we have held as the essence of nursing? At the state level GNA is exploring many new ways to generate activity and interest for nurse leaders by offering creative alternatives to be involved in the organization.
We need to find a way to reach out to determine the needs of these nurses. So we, at the district level, must look critically at how we want to see ourselves to address the needs of the future of the profession and to function best for all nurses.
My challenge to you, the membership, is to determine what you want in your professional organization, step forward and make your desires known. Now is the time to make our district of GNA into what you want it to be. Let us all work together to create a meaningful professional organization that will advocate for the nursing, practice and patient needs of our district, state and nation now and for the future.
